Matthew 7:7-8

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Taken out of context, these verses might seem as if the one asking, can get anything that is asked. These verses must be understood in their immediate context and in light of the whole Bible’s teaching on prayer. For example – the one praying must not have any unconfessed sin in their lives (Psalm 66:19), praying must be done in faith (James 1:6-8), the prayer must be given in the will of God (1 John 5:14), and it must be offered persistently (Luke 18:1-8) and sincerely (Hebrews 10:22a)
