These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
The purpose of this discourse with the disciples was that they might have peace. When they would be hated, pursued, persecuted, falsely condemned, and even tortured, they could have peace in Him. Jesus overcame the world at the cross of Calvary. In spite of their tribulations, they could rest assured that they were on the winning side. With the coming of the Holy Spirit, they would have new powers of endurance and new courage with which to face the foe.
