Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
Paul did not consider himself as perfect. The word “perfect” refers to the whole subject of conformity to Christ. He realized that satisfaction was a detriment to progress. He knew that he had a ways to go to be perfectly conformed to Christ and the process was on going.
