Proverbs 1:25-28

But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

Wisdom sorrowed over people who brushed aside all her counsel and who would have nothing to do with her constructive criticism. It is odd that people are so stubborn and irrational that they would brush aside God’s commandments and warnings which are for our good. He never gives us a commandment, warning, or principle because He is arbitrary or doesn’t want us to enjoy life. God does know that if an individual persistently refuses to listen, that rejection will inevitably bring disaster and ruin, then it will be wisdom’s turn to laugh. The judgment people fear will descend on them like a storm, calamity will roar down like a tornado, and distress, anguish, shock, and despair will seize them. Then people will call on wisdom in vain, as they will be desperate to find her, but won’t be able to.
