Proverbs 4:24-25

Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

A “forward mouth” signifies dishonest and devious speech, while “preserve lips” refers to conversation that is not straightforward and truthful. We are to put away both of these things, as they will cause us to be taken away from things that are honest and truthful. We are to have eyes and eyelids that look straight ahead, with a singleness of purpose, so that we do not turn aside for sin or anything that is not a benefit to our life.
