For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear: For a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with meat; For an odious woman when she is married; and an handmaid that is heir to her mistress.
The four things that Agur lists are the kind of things that can throw the earth into turmoil. They are – 1.) a servant that reigns, because when they do, they can become arrogant and overbearing, 2.) a fool filled with food, as their prosperity causes them to become rude, arrogant, and show a lack of respect, 3.) a hateful woman, because of her disposition she has remained single and is finally able to become a bride, 4.) a maidservant who succeeds her mistress, which doesn’t know how to act with grace and refinement, and is coarse, rude, and vulgar.
