John 5:24

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Jesus began this verse with words that drew attention to the importance of what He was about to say. After He got His listeners’ attention, Jesus made five profound statements – 1) “He that heareth my word,” – to hear the word of Jesus means not only to listen to it, but also to receive it, to believe it, and to obey it, 2) “believeth on him that sent me,” – it is a matter of believing God, 3) “hath everlasting life,” – He did not say that we will have eternal life but that we have eternal life right now, 4) “shall not come into condemnation;” – once we hear the word of Jesus and believe it, we are not condemned now nor will we ever be condemned, 5) “but is passed from death unto life” – the one who has trusted Christ as their Saviour has passed out of the state of spiritual death into one of spiritual life.
