Romans 6:6

Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

At Calvary, our “old man”, which refers to all that we were as children of Adam, our evil, unregenerate selves, with all of the old habits and appetites, was put to death. At our conversion, we put off the “old man” and put on the “new man”, which is a life of holiness and righteousness. Because the “old man” has been crucified and the “new man” has been put on, we are not to serve sin.
