1 John 4:4
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
Believers are not to be overcome by the world, false teachers, or Satan because they have the Holy Spirit within them, which is able to empower them to be victorious and not defeated.
1 John 5:4-5
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
John reveals the secret of victory over the world. The world system is a scheme of temptation, always trying to drag us away from God and from what is eternal, and seeking to occupy us with what is temporary and sensual. Only the one born of God overcomes the world, because by faith we are able to rise above the things of this world and see things in their lives from an eternal perspective. The one who overcomes the world is the believer who realizes that the things which are seen are temporary and the things which are not seen are eternal.
1 Corinthians 15:57
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Through faith in Christ, we have victory over death and the grave.
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
Paul stated that we are not only conquerors, but more than conquerors. It is not simply that we triumph over formidable forces, but that in doing so we bring glory to God, blessings to others, and good to ourselves. This promise is not through our own strength, but only through Him who loved us.
Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
We are not to rejoice if we have power over spirits but that we possess salvation. We are to rejoice in our salvation.
1 Peter 1:5
Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
When we are saved, we are guarded by God for eternity to come. Because our salvation is given to us by God, He is the One who keeps us eternally secure and we have nothing to fear.
2 Corinthians 1:22
Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.
At the moment of salvation, we are sealed, which is the mark of ownership and security, which shows that we belong to God and are given the Holy Spirit, as a guarantee that our inheritance is assured.
1 Thessalonians 2:13
For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
Paul tells of the Thessalonians’ response to the preaching of the gospel – when they received the message, they received it as being from God and because they accepted the message as from God, it actively worked in their mind, heart, and will.
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
It is possible for us to live out God’s will because it is God who works in us and gives us the power to carry out His desire.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
The result of salvation is that we are God’s workmanship. A born-again believer is the masterpiece of God, as He takes the raw materials He has to work with and makes it into something valuable. This masterpiece is nothing less than a new creation through Christ.
