When we secretly give to others, God will reward us openly - Matthew 6:2-4
Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
The hypocrites attracted attention to themselves when they gave in the synagogues and to the needy on the streets. Christ said that they had their reward, as their deeds were seen by others. When a chartable deed is done, it is to be done in secret. This means that we are to give in a humble fashion, not to be seen by others but to be a blessing to those who have need.
