Godly sorrow brings repentance - 2 Corinthians 7:10
For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
This verse contrasts godly sorrow and the sorrow of the world. The sorrow of the world is not true repentance but mere remorse. It produces bitterness, hardness, despair, and, eventually, death. It does not lead to God or to a forsaking of sin. Godly sorrow means grief which comes into a life after sin has been committed and it has led to repentance. The individual that experiences godly sorrow realizes that God is speaking to them, so they take sides with God against themselves and their sin.
